  16. <p>     SALARY CUT. Three weeks ago, 60 Minutes broadcast a 1986
  17. interview with Charles Keating, head of American Continental
  18. Corp., parent company of the failed Lincoln Savings. In it, he
  19. boasted that he paid his secretary $100,000 a year. Testifying
  20. last Thursday in a lawsuit challenging the federal takeover of
  21. Lincoln, the financier could not even recall how much he was
  22. paid. Federal attorney James Murphy could: Keating's
  23. compensation in 1986 and 1987 totaled $7.25 million. After
  24. American Continental filed for bankruptcy, his salary was
  25. trimmed to $400,000. Last month he pledged to reduce it to $1
  26. starting Jan. 1.
